Friday Favourites: Inaugural Edition

I mentioned yesterday that I have some fun changes and additions planned for the blog this year. I’ve technically always had these planned, but so far, I haven’t actually done anything about it. Because of that, I’ve been a little dissatisfied with the blog, and I’m bound and determined to make 2015 the year that I finally create the blog I’ve always wanted.

Also, does anyone else have a ridiculously hard time writing the correct year after it changes? Like, for months? I apologize in advance if I accidentally write 2014 until next December. I’ll get it right just in time for 2016 to start…

SO. Big Plans:

Organic Farming Posts
One of the reasons I started this blog was to share cool things I’m learning about Organic Farming and Food Production. I will be posting more about these topics this year, and if there’s anything specific you’d like to know, feel free to ask! If I don’t already have resources to answer your question, I’m in a really great place to find and share said resources.
Friday Favourites
I also have lots of interests besides farming and photography, and I’d like to start integrating those into the blog a bit more. You might find things about writing, charities, artsy fartsy stuff, things that made me giggle, things that made me cry, you name it. Most of these will be wrapped up in a nice little package called “Friday Favourites” (you see what I did there?). These will be posted on Fridays. Obviously. And they will be full of my favorite things.
100 Strangers Challenge
This one scares the bejeebies out of me. Even as I write this, I’m 98% certain I’ll just chicken out and fail to do any of what I’m about to say. But about a week ago, one of my favorite photography blogs did a post on photography challenges. One of the ones they listed was the 100 Strangers Challenge. Street photography and portraits have always inspired me, but I am far too nervous to ever do it myself. I will walk down the street and see a fascinating face and think, Goodness, he/she would make a beautiful portrait. I should ask if I can take their picture. But then I don’t. Because I am weak.

But no more! I want to be a better travel photographer, and you can only tell so much of the story of a place if you stick to vistas and architecture. After I posted about the magical moment with my footballer friend, my cousin Dawn asked me why there wasn’t a picture of him–and the truth is, I almost asked him if I could take a photo. I should have asked him. Next time, I will ask him.

Yes, this will be a challenge for me. I might fail miserably. But I’m going to try, even if it kills me.

Facebook Page
In an effort to not be Miss Spammy McSpammerson with Facebook updates for my friends/acquaintances who don’t really care to read the blog, I have created a Facebook page. I will post updates on that page, so if you’d like to receive an update whenever I add to the blog, you can like my page here. Or if you’d prefer, you can always get posts via email or follow me on your favorite RSS reader. (I use Feedly, personally.) I’ll still post blog updates to my personal page, but probably just for the weekly 365 roundup.

There you go. I think that’s it. And since it’s Friday, here is my first ever Favourite Thing. My mom sent me this video ages ago, and no matter how many times I watch it, it still gives me the chills. Not only does it deliver an important message, but it is also an impressive piece of animation. Maybe you’ve already seen it, but in case you haven’t, have a gander:

2014 is going to be a great year.
