Hi! I'm Jess.

I’m the writer and creative director behind the scenes here on Jest Kept Secret, and I’m so glad you’re here!

I believe that we were created by a loving Heavenly Father who wants us to have joy in our lives—now, not just when life is “perfect.” Like you, I’ve had my share of hard times. I’ve battled loneliness, anxiety, and self-esteem issues. I’ve been unemployed, lost loved ones, moved more times than I can count. And despite desperately wanting to start our family, my husband (Brett) and I have struggled with unexplained infertility for our entire marriage.

And through it all, I’ve learned that even when life is hard—and let’s face it, when is it not?—we can still find joy by intentionally making space for it in our lives. So often, we are tempted to fill up the empty and lonely places in our hearts with “quick fix” solutions, busy schedules, addictions, physical and mental clutter, and other things of little or no value. Those things might make us feel better for a little while, but that relief is superficial.  I believe that by intentionally reopening those spaces and asking God how we can fill them in His way, we invite true, deep, and lasting joy into our hearts.

Here on Jest Kept Secret, I want to help you make space for joy by

  • Developing a personal relationship with your loving Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ
  • Simplifying your routines and freeing up time for the things that matter most
  • Creating meaningful self-care rituals that involve nature, creativity, and lifelong learning
  • Strengthening bonds with family, friends, and your community
  • Remembering and recording the moments that bring you joy

But here’s the thing: there is no one-size-fits-all formula for finding joy.
(At least, not one that I’ve found yet…)

I make no claims of being a life coach and I’m not going to sell you my 10 Step Plan for Being Happy™. Jest Kept Secret isn’t meant to overwhelm your to do list.

What I do want to do is help you think about your own life, identify what does and doesn’t work for you, and make intentional, personalized choices designed to help you experience joy right now, in whatever season of life you’re in. And when those things don’t work for you any more, I’m giving you permission to change the plan and try something different for a little while. Life changes. We change. It’s okay if your approach changes and grows along with it.

So whether you need a pick-me-up when you’re having a really rough time, prompts for what to write about in your journal, or the best ever apple pie recipe, you’ve come to the right place. Welcome to Jest Kept Secret, you wonderful human. We’re gonna be best friends.
