Hi! I’m Jess, the writer and photographer behind the scenes here on Jest Kept Secret, and I’m so glad you’re here!

I believe that we were created by a loving Heavenly Father who wants us to have joy in our lives—now, not just when life is “perfect.” Like you, I’ve had my share of hard moments. I was single until the age of 31 and battled the low self-esteem that comes from feeling lonely and unlovable. I’ve moved more times than I can count. I’ve left jobs, lost jobs, and been jobless for months. I’ve lost loved ones, and my husband and I have struggled with infertility for years.

And through it all, I’ve learned that even when life is hard—and let’s face it, when is it not?—we can still find joy by intentionally making space for it in our lives. So often, we are tempted to fill up the empty and lonely places in our hearts with “quick fix” solutions, busy schedules, addictions, physical and mental clutter, and other things of little or no value. Those things might make us feel better for a little while, but that relief is superficial.  I believe that by intentionally reopening those spaces and asking God how we can fill them in His way, we invite true, deep, and lasting joy into our hearts.

Here on Jest Kept Secret, you’ll learn to make space for joy by:

Simplifying your routines and freeing up time for
the things that matter most

Incorporating more nature, creativity, service, and
learning into your life

Developing a personal relationship with your loving
Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ

Strengthening relationships with family, friends,
and your community

Remembering and recording the moments that
bring you joy
